Finmas for Sparkasse

Making Insurance Feel Like Progress

An insurance module for Sparkasse homeowners: every policy in one place, a clear view of their protection, and recommendations to close the gaps.

Experience Principles

Property first

Organise insurance around the home it protects, not around the product that sells it.

Best fit

Recommend the best option on the market for each owner's situation, not only Sparkasse products.

One place

Owners can add and edit their own policies, so they have full control in a single place.

Data quality first

Clean, structured policy data today, so the platform can build on it tomorrow.

Challenge

Cockpit Immobilie is Sparkasse's digital companion for homeowners and buyers: property value, financing, modernisation and services in one place. When I joined, the platform hadn't launched yet, and insurance was a blank spot. Homeowners' policies are scattered: some with Sparkasse, most with other insurers, and many sitting in a drawer. People rarely know which ones belong to which property, or whether they're covered at all. Insurance is also a low-interest topic, so the module had to make it feel manageable instead of like homework, and show owners not only what they have, but what they're missing.

Role

As UX/UI Designer, I owned the end-to-end experience of the insurance module for Sparkasse customers registered in Cockpit Immobilie: information architecture, flows, UI and every edge state, from empty and error states to dialogs and confirmations. I worked with a team of insurance specialists, a project manager and a researcher. Together we worked through the questions that shaped the module: how to group a property's insurances (by topic, or by whether they're in place or missing), how the platform should respond when a user isn't interested in a recommended policy, and how to rank importance so users can weigh each recommendation themselves. We tested the concept in 8 usability sessions before development.

Solution

Organised around the property: policies are grouped under each home, with a separate section for anything not linked to a property, so owners see their situation the way they think about it. Protection status at a glance: owners see how well each property is covered and where the gaps are. Recommendations users can weigh: every recommendation carries an importance level (very important, important, recommended), so owners understand the priorities and make their own call. We also defined how the platform responds when an owner isn't interested in a recommended policy, so recommendations inform without pressuring. The best fit, not just our catalogue: recommendations aim for the best option for each owner's situation, not only Sparkasse products. Full control in one place: Sparkasse policies are read-only, while owners can add, edit, link or remove their own policies from other insurers, and separate detail views make clear which data comes from the bank and which comes from the user. Guidance at the point of friction: inline validation flags incomplete policies with a direct path to fix them, and empty states explain what happens next.
